Professional Training Certificate in Dance
with North Carolina Dance Theatre
In conjunction with Charlotte 's professional dance company, North Carolina Dance Theatre (NCDT), the university offers a Professional Training Certificate in Dance for those specializing in ballet performance. The unique partnership provides the student professional dance training while earning a college degree.
Open by audition to a student in any major, the two year, 16 credit hour Professional Training Certificate provides training with expert teachers at the School of North Carolina Dance Theatre. Some certificate students may be invited to audition for the North Carolina Dance Theatre REPERTORY Ensemble or perform in works with the main company. Training in a professional dance environment puts students in contact with internationally acclaimed choreographers, including Dwight Rhoden, NCDT Resident Choreographer. Artistic Director, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and Associate Director Patricia McBride are committed to both classical and contemporary works in the repertory of this exceptional company.
The Certificate is awarded upon completion of the baccalaureate degree. THERE IS ALSO AN EXTENSION FOR THOSE WANTING TO CONTINUE THE PROFESSIONAL BALLET TRAINING BEYOND THE TWO YEARS.
Pre-college credit is also available to high school students through this program.
Audition is required and can be done at one of three opportunities:
- Audition sites throughout the country (see
www.ncdance.org) for listing).
- On the same day as the audition for dance scholarships at UNC Charlotte – TBA
STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE AN APPLICATION AT THE AUDITION SITE. THEY WILL NEED POINTE SHOES FOR THE AUDITION.
